The image on the left is made up of images taken by Cassini station through a red, green, and purple filter. It roughly corresponds to what the Titan saw the human eye: a yellow-orange ball, fringed with a thin blue haze. The characteristic color of the atmosphere of Titan gives hydrocarbon smog, formed under the action of ultraviolet from methane and nitrogen.
To break through this smog and view the surface of the satellite, it is necessary to use other methods. For example, infrared shooting. The monochrome image of Titan in the center of the collage was combined from three images taken by Cassini using a filter at a wavelength of 938 nm.It is easy to see that in this photo the satellite has a non-uniform color. It corresponds to the real differences in the reflectivity of different parts of the surface of Titan.
Finally, the right image in artificial colors was composed of images taken through filters at a wavelength of 420, 889 and 938 nm. Green color corresponds to the surface areas of Titan itself. Red color - regions in the stratosphere of the satellite, where methane absorbs sunlight. Blue - different layers of haze in the upper part of the atmosphere of the satellite.
The second photo was taken on the top of Cerro Paranal Mountain in the Chilean Atacama Desert. In the very center of the frame, you can see the tower of one of the four main "units" of the Very Large Telescope (VLT). It is a 8.2-meter reflector. The VLT complex also includes four mobile auxiliary telescopes. Thanks to him, VLT is now the largest optical telescope on Earth in terms of the total area of ​​mirrors, and has the highest resolution in the world.

But no matter how impressive the technical capabilities of the VLT are, the main thing in the photo is the southern starry sky. Its main detail is the multi-colored arch of the Milky Way, like a heavenly rainbow stretching across the entire frame.Part of the firmament is painted in a pale greenish color due to the effect of its own glow of the atmosphere.
To the left of the VLT "unit" tower you can see two bright spots of the Magellanic Clouds. On the right is the famous Orion Cluster, which can be guided by the bright stars when searching for other constellations and asterisms. Having drawn an imaginary line through the Orion Belt, we will find on its continuation a reddish Aldebaran lying in the constellation Taurus. And following this line even further, to the very horizon, we will see the Pleiades star cluster, known to many cultures and civilizations. Three bright stars above Orion form the Winter Triangle: these are Sirius, Betelgeuse and Procyon.
